Newly released patent applications show that the international logistics giant UPS may receive Bitcoin via the item exchange locker service.n
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) released the application and UPS explored the direction of a digital locker system. In addition to the traditional payment system, the application also proposes that it may be paid in Bitcoin.n
To apply a brief description of a locker system, the seller can leave the items in the locker while the buyer picks up the items at a convenient time. If both parties are willing to rent lockers, some of these lockers may offer payment-accepted configurations.n
The application mentions the method of payment the renter can choose from:n
n”In a specific embodiment, the locker facility may include a POS system that accepts user payment, which may include: 1, cash transaction, 2 credit or debit card transaction, 3 coupon, 4 electronic payment, such as Google Pay, Apple Pay, PayPal, Bitcoin, etc., 5, any other suitable payment. “n
nAn application later mentions bitcoin, like the traditional payment methods such as credit cards, which are used to refund customers.n
This is the latest application to list Bitcoin as a possible payment method. Although this does not indicate that the company will embrace cryptocurrencies on a large scale, its use as an option underlines its position as a digital exchange medium.n
More than 20 patent applications released by the USPTO in 2017 referred to Bitcoin as a possible payment method, albeit slightly less than the previous year. The number of applications that reflected this idea in the previous two years was 50.n
